1. Global LCA Software Enters the Era of Platformization and Vertical Integration
With One Click LCA’s acquisition of SimaPro, the global LCA software landscape is undergoing a major shift—from generic methodological tools to industry-specific integrated platforms.
SimaPro’s methodological transparency and One Click LCA’s automation and compliance modules together mark a new phase of verticalization, platformization, and AI-assisted intelligence in the LCA domain.
SSBTi stated: “The future competition will not depend on who calculates faster, but on who can build a carbon footprint ecosystem that ensures data consistency, compliance, and cross-sector integration.”
2. From “Academic Modeling” to “Industrial Practice”: The Rise of Cloud-based LCA
Across Asia, LCA applications are transitioning from research-oriented tools toward enterprise-level, cloud-based solutions.
This evolution allows companies to quickly generate compliant LCA and EPD reports through modularized, template-driven systems—accelerating the implementation of SBTi-aligned decarbonization strategies.
The trend of automation and digitization enables SMEs to complete product and organizational carbon footprint assessments faster and at lower cost, while ensuring greater transparency and data interoperability across supply chains.
3. SSBTi Actions: Promoting Cross-Platform Alignment and Training Collaboration
In response to this global shift, SSBTi—together with its affiliated platforms including eFootprint, CLCD, CPCD, IVL, LnData, AgilePoint, and WebLCA—is launching three key initiatives:
Data Interoperability Framework
A cross-platform standardization initiative that harmonizes data models and methodologies across systems, ensuring LCA/EPD reports remain comparable and compliant with ISO 14040/44, ISO 14067, EN 15804, and ISO 14068.
Joint LCA/EPD Certification Training Program
In collaboration with AgilePoint, LnData, WebLCA, and IVL, SSBTi will establish a Dual-Certified Training Program.
Participants will earn dual recognition under the SSBTi Certification Framework and IVL/EPD systems—enhancing alignment between Asian and European verification standards.
AI-driven Modeling and Verification Module
SSBTi is developing a next-generation Footprint Assistant, integrating SSBTi, LnData, eFootprint, and A1’s carbon data engines.
The system enables intelligent BOM mapping, automated report generation, and model transparency verification—embodying the principle:
“Leave complexity to the core, and simplicity to the user.”
4. Shared Vision: Building the “Asia LCA Ecosystem”
SSBTi aims to establish a connected and transparent ecosystem for Asia’s carbon data infrastructure within three years:
- Develop an Asia LCA Data Cloud for cross-border data exchange;
- Train and certify 100+ LCA consultants and instructors under SSBTi;
- Establish an EPD Fast-Track Publication Channel with IVL China and nanozeo.eFootprint.net;
- Expand data coverage across manufacturing, construction, packaging, textiles, and electronics sectors.
