[SSBTi E-Newsletter - Taipei Report] The National Taiwan University (NTU) startup team SFiM/SFiT, in collaboration with SSBTi (Supply-chain Science Based Targets initiative Council), formally announced yesterday (the 23rd) the introduction of the Asian environmental footprint (LCA/EPD) consulting and product certification system from the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. This joint effort aims to promote a professional cooperation project aligned with the EU's International EPD System.
"A Direct Path to International Guidelines, Avoiding Detours" – Building a Professional Consulting and Training System for Asian Supply Chains to Directly Align with EU Environmental Regulations
This collaboration will assist Asian enterprises, especially supply chain manufacturers in Taiwan and Southeast Asia, to "avoid detours and take a direct path to international guidelines." Facing upcoming EU policy requirements such as the DPP (Digital Product Passport), EPD (Environmental Product Declaration), and CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism), companies will be able to directly connect with the core professional circle for EU environmental compliance and certification.

Establishing the Right Knowledge System, Connecting Directly to International Consulting Networks
Raymond Wang, Chairman of the SSBTi Council, stated that this partnership not only brings IVL's consulting and certification experience to Asia but also simultaneously launches Asia's first official "Core LCA/EPD Course." This course combines the official methodologies of IVL and the International EPD System to establish a correct knowledge framework and data linkage mechanism for businesses, helping them avoid pitfalls and rapidly achieve international certification.
This course and consulting program will specifically focus on:
1. Alignment with International Standards (LCA/EPD International, DPP, CBAM, SBTi)
2. Practical Application and Case Analysis of LCA/EPD (using SimaPro / Gabi / openLCA, etc.)
3. EU Environmental Compliance and Product Footprint Verification Guidelines (EPD, CBAM, DPP)
4. Localized Implementation Solutions for Asian Supply Chains (Data integration via system platforms)
A Three-Stage Development Roadmap: From Importing EU R&D capabilities to Establishing an Independent Footprint Platform
The NTU startup team SFiM (Sustainable Future impact Matrix) and the SSBTi Council plan a three-stage development roadmap, progressively moving from introducing EU environmental research capabilities to building an autonomous footprint platform.
• Stage 1: Introduce strong EU environmental R&D capabilities – With professional technical support from IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, establish a professional LCA/EPD consulting team for major Asian brands and supply chain leaders.
• Stage 2: Promote autonomous environmental footprint R&D capabilities and discernment – In coordination with IVL / International EPD System, rapidly elevate the Asian industry's level of environmental footprint analysis and argumentation.
• Stage 3: Expand an autonomous industry footprint platform – Cover the Southeast Asian market, establish "science-based industry environmental narrative leadership," and strengthen Asia's voice in the international ESG compliance ecosystem.

SSBTi × IVL × SFiM/SFiT: Building an ESG Industry Bridge Connecting Asia Directly to the EU
"This is not just a technology transfer, but an integration of corporate competitiveness and ESG capabilities," said Raymond Wang, Chairman of SSBTi. He expects that amid the wave of net-zero and carbon reduction in the Asian supply chain, Taiwan needs not just to react passively, but to have the ability to speak the environmental language that complies with EU regulations. Through the partnership with EPD International/IVL, the hope is to help relevant industries "avoid detours" and walk on the correct international track from the very beginning.
SSBTi (Supply-chain Science Based Targets Initiative) is Asia's first non-profit organization focused on supply chain science-based carbon reduction and product footprint management. It specializes in LCA/EPD carbon footprint technology, international standards alignment, and supply chain data integration. Its recommended platforms include LnData Carbon, A1 Smart Factories Alliance, Quantum (China), AgilePoint Footprint Marketplace, and others, dedicated to assisting Asian enterprises in moving towards Science-Based Targets (SBTi) and international EPD/DPP compliance.
IVL (Swedish Environmental Research Institute), established in 1966 as an institute under the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, is one of the world's most authoritative international research and certification bodies for LCA/EPD and a key technical partner of the International EPD System. Its research covers product footprints, circular economy, pollution prevention, and carbon neutrality strategies, providing core technical support for EU and global sustainability policies.
